Do I need to get tooth reshaping?

Cases, where aesthetic correction may be necessary

Who would not agree that healthy, nicely shaped, naturally white teeth make their owners self-confident and therefore more successful? In today’s world, the emphasis we put on our appearance is even bigger than before. This is why more and more people use the various methods of tooth reshaping.

In the followings, you will find answers to these questions:

Is tooth reshaping possible?

It frequently occurs that, despite having healthy teeth, we are not happy with them from an aesthetic point of view. The good news is that it is possible to change the colour, the size and even the shape of our teeth. Thanks to scientific developments and modern dental procedures, today anyone can have a perfect set of teeth.

What type of diseases could be the consequences of having teeth with different sizes?

It actually means that teeth can be too small, too big, uneven or irregular. Let’s examine these differences. There are several problems arising from the different sizes and shapes of teeth. Just to name a few.

Gap between the teeth

Diastema – a gap between the teeth – is a harmless flaw in most cases. Most frequently it occurs between the two upper incisors. However, it can also appear between the side and posterior teeth, which can lead to chewing problems, as well as other dental problems. Getting rid of the gap between the teeth is not only a remedy for these problems.

It can also change the patient’s speech and pronunciation of words.

Broken jagged teeth edge

An accident or wearing of teeth could cause uneven teeth. The overloaded teeth on one size are prone to breaking. Consuming solid food can also cause injuries on the surface of the teeth.

Uneven teeth

The uneven surface of the teeth can also cause inconveniences. It can make chewing difficult, the affected teeth are more prone to cavities and it is not nice from an aesthetic point of view, either.

Visible alterations in sizes

Another common phenomenon is the noticeable difference in the size and shape of our teeth. This can be really disturbing, especially when the sizes of the frontal teeth are different, which makes our teeth look irregular. Quite often people’s teeth look much smaller than they are in reality. The reason for this is that the gum grows over the teeth excessively, making them smaller optically.

In what cases is tooth reshaping justified?

It is also possible to change the size and form of teeth in the ‘traditional’ dentistry.
It is necessary in serious cases because teeth extrusion can endanger the health of teeth, the proper closure of teeth or the quality of the bite.
It is also warmly welcomed in the aesthetic dentistry when our smile is formed with tiny, smooth moves by professional dentists.
These dental procedures are listed in the next paragraph.

What kind of dental procedures are suitable for teeth contouring?

Depending on the patient’s preferences, various procedures are available to change the shape and size of the teeth.

Dental crown

One of the best-known solutions is the dental crown which protects a weakened tooth. This is an ideal solution for making the discolored, irregular teeth look better. Besides, it is used for implants and for repairing broken or damaged teeth.

Crowns can be made of various materials: metal, metal ceramic, plastic, full ceramic or zirconium oxide. A disadvantage is that during the procedure, teeth are polished that can damage the healthy teeth; therefore, it can be used just in emergency cases. Dental crowns are used when the tooth is seriously damaged and we are not permitted to use tooth filling or dental veneers.

Dental veneers

Dental veneersteeth contouring, ceramic veneers or direct veneers are excellent, but lesser known solutions. They can offer a perfect result when our teeth are discoloured, there is a gap between our frontal teeth, our tooth is broken or it doesn’t have the appropriate shape or size.
Dental veneers are wafer-thin, custom-made shells designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve your appearance.
A decisive argument for ceramic veneers is the fact that the teeth are only minimally ground down during the procedure. The end result is a beautiful, natural-looking set of teeth.

Teeth polishing, enamel formation, contouring

Contrary to the above-mentioned facts, there is an opportunity for making the bigger teeth smaller. In certain cases, the size of teeth can be corrected with smaller-bigger polishing. Of course, the dentist needs to pay attention not to let the remained teeth opened.
Teeth contouring, that is, smooth reshaping of the tooth enamel is the dental tool of aesthetic dentistry. The dentist forms the surface of teeth with tiny rasp, grinder and polisher. You can experience surprisingly big changes with these tiny fine interventions

Braces

Many people remember braces from their childhood. Braces also serve as a solution for altering the size and shape of the teeth. In order to achieve the desired effect, patients must usually wear braces for several months or even for years. In most cases, patients wearing braces complain of some pain and discomfort. Another argument against braces is that they are too visible so they can make their owner feel socially uncomfortable.

Fortunately, a solution already exists for this problem, too. There are internally fitted, therefore completely invisible devices which offer a perfect solution from an aesthetic point of view.

Gum correction

Gum correction can solve two different problems: gum resting in a position that is too high or too low with the teeth.
The gum above the teeth of people belonging to the first type is really visible by smiling. In this case, gum correction can provide help.
People in the second type have the opposite gum. In cases when the teeth seem too small because the gum has grown over them, the dentist can push the gum up by using dental laser. This increases the size of the visible surface of the teeth.

Our article has revealed how many new services are provided in traditional and aesthetic dentistry. These have developed significantly. They could highly contribute to the health of teeth just like the traditional ones.
